New captain Shubman Gill's unbeaten 114 led India's gritty effort to 310-5 against England on day one Wednesday of the second test at Edgbaston. The pressure was on Gill as India's last specialist batsman to prevent exposing the fragile bottom order in the last two hours of an extended day.

Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been left out of India’s squad for the second Test against England at Edgbaston. He is replaced by fellow fast bowler Akash Deep. There are two other changes from the squad named in the first Test, with Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar coming in for Sai Sudharsan and Shardul Thakur.
