Gov. Gavin Newsom scored a campaign victory Tuesday that may help his party in the midterms as he moves toward a White House run.

Voters are deciding whether to approve California's Proposition 50 to temporarily use gerrymandered districts that favor Democrats.
Many of the advisers guiding Democrats’ mid-cycle redistricting push have been in the trenches with the California governor for years.
According to a poll released last Thursday from the UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies, co-sponsored by the LA Times, six out of 10 likely voters support Prop. 50, the Nov. 4 statewide ballot measure that would redraw California’s congressional districts and give Democrats a boost toward regaining control of the House.
