Israel strikes southern Lebanon, killing two and wounding seven
The attacks in two towns come a day after Israel threatened to escalate its assault on alleged Hezbollah targets.
Hezbollah is rearming by smuggling weapons through seaports, as well as smuggling routes through Syria, leading Israel to lose patience with Lebanon over its commitment to disarm the terror group, the sources say. Israel was angered by recent intelligence findings on the issue, the sources add.
"This is a significant discussion in light of Hezbollah's actions on the ground," an Israeli official said. Israel's Security Cabinet and the heads of the security establishment are meeting on Thursday evening with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss the strengthening of Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Lebanon's President Joseph Aoun says any negotiations with Israel to stop ongoing strikes on southern Lebanon must be mutual.
