President Donald Trump signed an executive order Wednesday that seeks to ban transgender athletes from competing in women’s and girl’s school-sponsored athletics by denying federal funds to schools that allow it.

President Trump is expected to sign an executive order Wednesday banning trans women and girls from participating in female sports in federally-funded schools, multiple outlets reported. Why it matters: Trump made attacks on trans people — and especially trans athletes — a major focus of his 2024 campaign.

The order, called “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports,” is based on the Trump administration’s interpretation of Title IX.
