Nearly 2 million people in Illinois could lose federal food benefits ahead of Thanksgiving if Congress can’t agree on a budget by the end of the month.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), which oversees the program, has said there will not be enough funding to pay for all benefits for November if the shutdown persists, USA Today reported.

Funding for SNAP is on track to run out in two weeks if the shutdown continues, States Newsroom reported.
