Paddlers, anglers, and backcountry campers planning trips into northeastern Minnesota’s most popular wilderness area lost access to 225,000 acres this month after the U.S. Forest Service issued an emergency closure order across the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.

Toronto took on an orangey hue as it grappled with a double-whammy of intense heat and wildfire smoke from hundreds of raging forest fires in northwestern Ontario.

Authorities are working to suppress and contain multiple wildfires that broke out in Superior National Forest this week, and state officials say additional firefighting resources are "limited due to fire activity across the country.
