Scoreboard luck continues to bail out the Islanders. Can they finally win one for themselves tonight against the Flyers?

Fourth-liner Marc Gatcomb brought the Islanders within 2-1 with a shot that trickled past Daniil Tarasov (35 saves) at 5:28 of the second period. Schenn tied it at 12:09 and Simon Holmstrom’s power-play goal at 14:52 put the Islanders ahead 3-2. Emil Heineman, at 17:00, and fourth-liner Casey Cizikas, at 17:57, made it a three-goal advantage.

Brayden Schenn had a goal and two assists, Matthew Schaefer tied the rookie defenseman franchise scoring record and the New York Islanders rallied to beat the two-time defending champion Florida Panthers 5-2 and keep pace in a competitive Eastern Conference playoff race.

Holmstrom scored on the power play to give the Islanders a 3-2 lead at 14:52 of the second, beating a screened Tarasov glove side. Heineman extended the Islanders’ lead to 4-2 at the 17-minute mark of the second. Anders Lee found him cutting in from the Islanders bench before he beat Tarasov glove side with a one-time finish.
