The Detroit Red Wings signed Vladimir Tarasenko to a two-year contract in NHL Free Agency over the summer. Tarasenko brought legitimate expectations with him to Detroit. He came off a Stanley Cup victory with the Florida Panthers — the second Stanley Cup ring of his career.

Vladimir Tarasenko’s time with the Detroit Red Wings may be short-lived, as trade chatter surrounding the veteran winger is starting to pick up ahead of the March 7 NHL trade deadline.

Tarasenko signed a two-year, $9.5 million contract with Detroit last summer, which includes a full no-trade clause only active through the first year of his deal. From July 1, the clause turns into a modified, eight-team no-trade clause.

Four veteran forwards have been highlighted as players to watch closely as the NHL approaches the trade deadline on March 7.

The Red Wings are in a position to buy leading up to the trade deadline now that they’re back in the playoff conversation. Still, general manager Steve Yzerman has been known to trade expiring assets even with his eyes set on the playoffs.

Vladimir Tarasenko probably had relief mixed in with his joy over netting his 300th career NHL goal Saturday in the Detroit Red Wings’ 6-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
