A flurry of phony text messages are trying to get metro area motorists to pay off overdue EZPass fees tied to the Big Apple’s new congestion pricing plan, transportation officials said.

The Thruway Authority warns that E-ZPass or Tolls by Mail would never send texts requesting sensitive personal information such as credit card, birthday, Social Security number, or other personally identifiable information.
