An American Airlines flight from Boston aborted its landing at Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C. Tuesday morning to avoid another plane that was taking off on the same runway, authorities said.

An American Airlines plane arriving at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport discontinued its landing, performing a go-around at an air traffic controller’s instruction to avoid getting too close to another aircraft departing from the same runway,

The FAA says an air traffic controller "instructed American Flight 2246 to perform a go-around," a safety maneuver they say was used to make sure there was enough space between that flight and another leaving the same runway.
