The Boston Red Sox have removed the interim tag from Chad Tracy’s title. The team named Tracy their full-time manager on Tuesday morning and signed him to a three-year contract with a club option for the 2030 season.

BOSTON — As the Red Sox toiled in late June, two months after an April bloodletting failed to immediately jumpstart what looked like a lost season, further changes — and turmoil — seemed like a foregone conclusion.

Less than 48 hours after donning postseason t-shirts and popping champagne to celebrate clinching a playoff spot for the second straight year, the Red Sox finally removed the “interim” tag from manager Chad Tracy’s job title.

Under Tracy and Breslow's guidance, the Red Sox have vaulted into playoff contention after a miserable start to the season.

There are other deserving candidates in the AL. Kevin Cash has again overcome a puny payroll and has led the Rays to the league's best record, but he's already been honored with the award twice. The White Sox ' Will Venable has done a fine job with a mostly young roster, but at this writing, the White Sox aren't guaranteed a spot in the playoffs.
