Red Wings defenseman Jeff Petry has reportedly undergone surgery and will likely miss an extended amount of time.

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Jeff Petry will be out six-to-eight weeks after undergoing surgery, according to the Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli.

On Sunday night, National Hockey League insider Frank Seravalli revealed that, after already missing a month of action, Petry has gone under the knife for corrective surgery. The Red Wings have not disclosed the nature of Petry's injury but according to Seravalli he will now miss the next six to eight weeks while recovering from the surgery.

The Detroit Red Wings have already been without veteran defenseman Jeff Petry for a month, but he may continue to be out for a couple more months. According to Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli, Petry underwent a surgery and could be out of the Red Wings lineup for another six to eight weeks.

He has been out of the lineup since suffering an injury in the team’s Jan. 3 game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
