OpenAI emphasizes that companies don’t need to register with ChatGPT to take advantage, as payment validation will be handled by PayPal. This should significantly reduce the risk of fraud for both shoppers and merchants, at least according to PayPal CEO Alex Chriss.
OpenAI and PayPal announced a partnership to embed PayPal’s wallet in ChatGPT, enabling "chat to checkout" payments starting in 2026. The move leverages OpenAI’s Agentic Commerce Protocol and opens thousands of merchants to the chatbot.
