The boss of The Last of Us game series’ studio, Neil Druckmann, has reacted to The Last of Us season 2 receiving 16 Emmy nominations.
The Warner Bros. Discovery network scored 142 Emmy nominations, compared to 121 for Netflix. This marks the most Emmy nominations HBO has ever received in a single year, beating its previous total of 140 in 2022. Last year, it received 91 and was behind Netflix and FX.
The all-time Emmy record haul remains the 160 nominations hoovered up by Netflix, also in 2020. This year, Netflix commanded 120, ranking second among platforms and up from last year's 107 noms. Limited series "The Penguin" punched above its weight with 24 nominations.
The second season of HBO's The Last of Us adaptation has earned the series another 16 Emmy nominations, including one for Outstanding Drama series.

A whole year is a large window, but even still The Last of Us should be back within two-ish years. A second season of The Penguin seems much less certain, but it also sounds like HBO hasn’t ruled it out.
Shows hosted by Jon Stewart (“The Daily Show”), Stephen Colbert (“The Late Show”) and Jimmy Kimmel (“Jimmy Kimmel Live”) will compete for best talk series. Only three series were nominated this year, leaving “Late Night With Seth Meyers” and “Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney” out in the cold.
The 76th Annual Emmy Awards will honor series that aired between June 1, 2024 and May 31, 2025. The 77th annual Primetime Emmy Awards are set to take place on Sunday, September 14, live on CBS at 8:00 p.m. ET/ 5:00 p.m. PT. Nate Bargatze will be hosting the awards show.
