Results timing: In 2024, 87 percent of votes were reported by midnight on election night, and 96 percent were reported by noon the next day. A small share of voters cast ballots by mail, which must be postmarked by Election Day and arrive within three days.
Election Day is here in Virginia. At stake Tuesday is control of the top three statewide offices of governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general; the General Assembly’s House of Delegates; and constitutional offices in cities across the commonwealth. Results will update below.
Spanberger becomes the state’s first female governor. She beat Republican opponent Winsome Earle-Sears, the state’s lieutenant-governor, 54.9 per cent to 44.9 per cent with 35 per cent of the vote counted, according to the AP.
