The vote came a week after Trump on his first day in office signed an executive order calling for the name to revert to Mount McKinley.

President Donald Trump on Monday vowed to rename North America’s tallest peak, Denali in Alaska, as Mount McKinley — reviving an idea he’d floated years ago that at that time saw strong pushback from state political leaders.

Alaska House members passed a resolution Monday urging President Trump not to rename Mount Denali to Mount Mckinley. Trump signed an executive order on his first day in office that undid a 2015 order from former President Obama naming North America’s highest peak Mount Denali.

In 2015, the name of the peak was changed during the Obama administration to reflect the traditions of Alaska Natives and preference of many Alaskans.

The state Senate is expected to quickly agree with the House's request to keep the name as Denali, which would send it to Washington, D.C.
