A school choice program that will fundamentally change Texas education by sending public dollars toward private schools is headed to the governor’s desk. The state Senate voted Thursday to send Senate Bill 2 to Gov.

The $1 billion proposal, which proponents call school choice, would give students roughly $10,500 in taxpayer money for private school tuition.

The Texas Senate has passed the controversial school choice bill with a vote of 19-12.Texas lawmakers convened Thursday to vote on the bill again.It was approved roughly a week ago by the House in a historic vote.
