At 6–2, the USC Trojans remain alive in the College Football Playoff race — but a November gauntlet featuring the Iowa Hawkeyes and Oregon Ducks will determine if they can sneak into the 12-team field.

"The 12-team field is comprised of the five highest-ranked conference champions, including the highest-ranked champion from the Group of Five, as well as seven at-large teams. The CFP participants are seeded based on their placement in the CFP rankings, with the top four teams receiving a bye during the first round, which is played on home campus.
