Eddie Kreighbaum says crews have already repaired two breaks and warns additional leaks are possible as temperatures warm and the ground continues to shift.

A significant break on Boal Street in Mount Auburn occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Monday, leaving crews still working to repair the pipe on Tuesday.

"We are treating this with urgency," Mayor Mary Sheffield said. "Crews have been working around the clock in extremely challenging conditions to repair the water main breaks."

Crews were working Tuesday, Jan. 27 to repair multiple water main breaks across Metro Detroit as frigid temperatures continued to impact aging infrastructure.

About 51 water main pipes in Detroit have burst as the city faces continued cold temperatures. Water flowing into the street makes it wet and icy.

MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. — Mecklenburg County woke up to frigid temperatures Tuesday morning, and the cold is already causing problems as water main breaks forced road closures in Matthews and south Charlotte. A water main break in Matthews shut down West John Street in both directions around 2:30 a.m.

The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department said that dozens of water main breaks have been reported around the city.

Crews with the city of Detroit are working around the clock to address 51 water main breaks across the city as extreme winter weather tests the aging infrastructure system.

A number of water main breaks are under repair in Metro Detroit, and one has resulted in an icy flood along Laing Street.

Trophy Club Municipal Utility District No. 1 is asking residents to conserve water as crews work to repair the break at Trophy Club Drive and Indian Creek Drive.
