MLS to align calendar with world's top football leagues
Major League Soccer will change its competition schedule in 2027 to align with the world's top football leagues in a decision commissioner Don Garber Thursday called one of the most important in the history of the 30-year-old league.
Substantial change could be coming to MLS's structure and operations following a Thursday vote, sources tell The Athletic
The calendar shift is expected to help teams during the transfer windows, in particular, the summer window, which currently happens in the middle of the MLS campaign. It would also eliminate the hurdles clubs face during the winter transfer window that falls in the middle of many European seasons.
MLS owners could also vote to shift its competition format to a single-table system with five geographically organized divisions, instead of the current Western and Eastern Conferences, according to The Athletic .
