The House on Tuesday passed a sprawling spending package that will end the partial government shutdown — but created another funding cliff for the Department of Homeland Security in two weeks.
Rep. Nathan Small, D-Las Cruces, the chairman of the House Appropriations and Finance Committee, said Monday the committee-approved budget plan gets legislators "halfway there" to the governor's request of an additional $160 million to pay for the initiative.
Sen. Mike Lee wants full funding for the Department of Homeland Security and his election security bill to be attached to the larger spending package.
