President Donald Trump on Monday agreed to a 30-day pause on his tariff threats against Mexico and Canada as America's two largest trading partners took steps to appease his concerns about border security and drug trafficking.

The U.S. Agency for International Development is at the center of a political firestorm after the Trump administration indicated it will shut it down as an independent agency and possibly move it under the U.S. State Department in a larger effort to crack down on federal bureaucracy.

Tariffs on Chinese goods are still scheduled to take effect at midnight, despite the White House pausing those on Canadian and Mexican products after agreement on new border security measures.
