Dec 1, 2017 · E-town adopted the Blue Jay as its new mascot, exorcising the Galloping Grey Ghosts from campus once and for all. Sports teams officially adopted the name in 1947, when Director of Athletics Ira Herr dubbed the men’s basketball team “Blue Jays.”

Herr eventually would establish the Blue Jay as the official mascot due to its possession of the school colors and its reputation as fighting, scrappy bird. As the 1940s began, Etown's development in sports continued but was quickly stunted following the entry of the United States into World War II in December 1941.

May 12, 2024 · Etown’s unofficial mascot and honorary alumnus from 2016-24 was Conrad (or C-Jay for short), a brilliant-hued Blue Jay who resided at the John James Audubon Center at Mill Grove until his passing in August 2024. Conrad served as a Bird Ambassador at Mill Grove, where he loved socializing with visitors from his enclosure and at events!

Elizabethtown College (informally Etown) is a private college in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. Francis advocated for Elizabethtown because of the proximity to the railways.
