How to Fix Overstriding Running | Matthew Boyd Physio

Overstriding is braking. When the foot lands too far in front of your center of mass the ground reaction force points back into you. That raises impact at the knee and hip, increases contact time, and lowers your running economy. The goal is not to reach farther. Create your stride length behind you. Land with a near vertical shin, foot just ahead of the hip, knee slightly bent. Then apply force backward and let your hip extension and elastic recoil carry you forward. My recommendations 1. Lift

Is Striding Edge Dangerous? How Narrow is it?

Preventing injury and running faster by fixing our over-striding habits ✨❤️👏 . I think this was the main reason I was getting shin splints, and not only did it allow me to be healthier when I run, but it also made me so much more efficient, and I found myself getting tired a lot less often! . Sometimes even being aware of something like this can make all the difference! Give it a go and see if you notice a change in your running! ❤️💪 . #running #run #trackandfield | Chari Hawkins

Form guide part 2: overstriding & footstrike ↓ Welcome to the second post in my 5-part series on running form essentials! Let’s talk about overstriding—a common running mistake that not only reduces efficiency but also increases your risk of injury. Overstriding happens when your foot lands too far ahead of your body, placing extra stress on your knees, shins, and hamstrings. This can lead to discomfort and injuries like runner’s knee, shin splints, or even hamstring strains. A simple cue to hel

The most common running form mistake ↓ Overstriding. I see this in about 80% of the runners I analyze, and because they often don’t realize they do it, they have no idea it keeps them stuck with injuries are plateaus. Why it’s a problem: when your foot lands far ahead of your body, you’re essentially hitting the brakes with every step. This creates unnecessary impact forces that travel straight up through your entire chain. The injury cascade: - Shin splints: more impact stress on the tibia with

“Don’t over stride “ You hear and read about this often, but what does it really mean? Over striding means placing your lead leg too far in front of your center of mass. The runner will typically heal strike and land with a straight leg. This action is like putting the brakes on while running. It is very inefficient. “Lengthen your stride, to run faster” This sounds contradictory to “don’t over stride” However, getting a longer stride does not mean placing your lead leg further in front of you,

Speed Kills: What Every Driver Needs to Know About the Dangers of Speeding

Don't let this one mistake hold you back from reaching your sprinting goals! Overstriding is a common error that can slow you down and even lead to injury. Focus on quick turnover and powerful strides instead. Keep your feet under your body and let your natural stride shine! Stop reaching for extra ground—it's actually the fastest way to slow yourself down. When you overstride and reach your foot out in front of your center of mass, you create a "braking effect" that kills your momentum and spikes your injury risk. True speed comes from striking directly underneath your hips with a stiff, vertical punch that bounces you forward. Focus on cyclic mechanics rather than reaching, and watch your transitions get smoother and your times get lower! #speedhacks #sprintmechan

Most athletes lose the race before they even come off the curve. The 200m isn’t just about speed… it’s about how you manage speed. The biggest mistakes I see: ❌ starting in the middle of curve ❌ Not hugging the curve ❌ Over-striding on the curve ❌ Tight shoulders and wasted energy ❌ Going all-out too early and dying the last 80m The faster way? ✔ Attack the curve with control – stay tall, lean slightly inside, and keep your cadence smooth. ✔ Relax your upper body – fast athletes stay loose while

Coach B. on Instagram: "Biomechanics Tip 📝: “The problem with Over-striding” Creating force that can be applied into the ground is essential for sprinting. As the runner swings the knee forward into the “high and tight” position, it’s important to keep it that way as it proceeds down into the ground. The reasoning behind this, is that when you swing the knee forward while keeping the ankle behind the knee, you conceal the force that was just created by the “swing”. If you cast the ankle
