September 8 marks the 25th anniversary of the release of "The Joy Luck Club," the movie based on Amy Tan's novel, about Chinese immigrant women and their daughters. It was the first time a major studio produced a film with a mostly Asian American cast. It's taken a quarter-century, but "Crazy Rich Asians," a second film featuring an Asian and Asian American cast has topped the box office for three weeks straight.
