In 1953, two major operational EOD units were established. EOD Unit ONE supported operations in the Pacific and was homeported at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. EOD Unit TWO supported operations in the Atlantic and was homeported at Charleston Naval Base, South Carolina. Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) experts from 33 (EOD) Engineer Regiment, based in Wimbish, Essex, have spent the last two weeks searching for, safely collecting and disposing of unexploded ordnance on the ranges and training areas of Kirkcudbright.
